FVDTC and the Coronavirus

March 23 Update:

Due to the Govenor's order to shelter in place, maintain social distancing, and the continuing spread of COVID-19 in Illinois, FVDTC has come to the reluctant conclusion that we must close until further notice. We will miss seeing our friends, both human and canine, but we want you to be safe and healthy. Come back and pick up where you left off once the crisis is past.

Look to this space, to our Facebook page, and to your email for updates.

March 16 Update:

As of March 16, government and CDC guidelines have been updated to limit the size of gatherings to less than 50 people. This change has forced us to cancel the Spring agility trial, scheduled for March 27-29. We are very disappointed by this development, but understand the necessity to keep ourselves and our neighbors safe. We hope to see you in September at our Fall Trial.

FVDTC Members and Guests -

There is a call to action by responsible leaders and health care institutions to work together to stop the spread of the coronavirus now. This is important because of the risk to the community at large, particularly the elderly and persons at high risk for complications from COVID-19. We have a responsibility to all club members, their families and our community to be part of the solution and to not proliferate the problem.

These circumstances are unprecedented. The instructions of the World Health Organization and the CDC are science-based and not media hype or mass hysteria. The Governor of Illinois, all sporting organizations, as well as Illinois schools and many other institutions and community leaders are participating and supporting action at this time.

Because FVDTC is not a vital service, we are compelled to be part of the solution and cooperate with authorities to protect our loved ones. FVDTC has always contributed to the community and this action is part of meeting our responsibility to the community.

For these reasons, FVDTC will join the German Shepherd Club of Chicago, the Northwest Obedience Club, and others, in suspending training or 14 days in accordance with guidelines issued by these agencies. At this time, we anticipate resuming training on Thursday, April 2nd, pending further developments or changes in the situation.

Persons with coronavirus may have the virus with minimal or no symptoms, due to this, they can unknowingly transmit the virus to others. Social distancing has been proven to be the only certain way to slow transmission. And while not having classes for two weeks is an inconvenience, the ramifications of possibly contributing to the spread of the virus is irresponsible and must be unacceptable to all club members.

For those that have sent in pre entires to the March Fun Match, your entries will be credited towards the April Fun Match. If you are unable to attend the April Fun Match we will offer refunds. The CGC Test scheduled during the March Fun Match will be rescheduled to future date. Everyone that has enrolled will be refunded the testing fee.

Per The University of Illinois, many 4H activities have been suspended for the time being, including the 4H dog classes at FVDTC. Classes hosted by FVDTC have been cancelled for March 26, April 2, and April 9, at which time the topic will be revisited and reviewed with the hopes of possibly resuming the youth classes on April 23. Extra classes at the end of the current 4H session will not be added

For further updates look to the FVDTC website, Facebook and/or Constant Contact communications.

Thank you for your understanding,

COVID-19 And Your Dog

A note from the AKC:

We are ... monitoring reports on the relationship between COVID-19 and companion animals which, based upon a U.S. Police Canine Association memo circulated by Dr. Carmen Battaglia this morning, states in part: “The current spread of COVID-19 is a result of human-to-human transmission. There is no justification in taking measures against companion animals which may compromise their welfare.”
